Week of Nov. 4th

Sciences: We are finishing up our 1st unit! Biodiversity. Study sheets for themes 7 and 8 are due Thursday Nov. 7th. Unit exam will be on Thursday Nov. 7th. Focus day : Students should consult their marks in Power School and work on any missed study sheets. It also is possible to work ahead and built study sheet for the new unit.  Chemistry notes:  Module 2 FLA: This week we will begin our poetry unit.  We will start by revising poetic devices and how to identify them as well as use them in our own writing. Focus day:   -Complete any out-standing work. -Read your independent novel  -Work on preparing your responses for your book talk ELA: Complete Language Power 13 & 14 for Friday 8th.  LP 12 - 15 Essays on Lamb to the Slaughter will be due Monday 18th. They need to be shared on a GoogleDoc with me: hmfeke@cbe.ab.ca; Font size 12, format justified. 5 paragraphs will include PATHOS, LOGOS & ETHOS as the body paragraphs. Week of the 28th-core subjects

SS: We started chapter 2 on the Youth Criminal Justice System. Please continue monitoring Powerschool for marks. There will be a vocab quiz next Wednesday Oct.30 on Chapter 2. Students will also have to complete a political Cartoon on LSJPA for November 5th and research news articles on crimes committed by youth. Sciences: Study sheet for theme 5 was due Yesterday!. Theme 6 is due Thursday October 31st. ELA: Complete Language Power 11 & 12. After reading Lamb to the Slaughter , students need to decide if Mary Maloney was temporarily insane or did she commit 1st degree murder. A graphic organizer will help students organize quotes & arguments for why they chose insanity over 1st degree murder. All of this planning will help to write persuasive paragraphs next week. These will be written under the lens of Pathos, Logos and Ethos. Week of Oct. 21st

Science: Students are asked to make (or buy) a small amount of  play dough . As a group of 3 or 4 students. 2 or 3 colors. All sealed in an air tight bag or in a small container. Study sheet for theme 5 is due Thursday Oct. 24th. Test on themes 3, 4 and 5 Wednesday Oct. 23rd. SS: Starting chapter 2 on Youth Criminal Justice System. Students did a test on Chapter 1 and hand-in a BB. Marks will be up on PowerSchool soon.   Student Vote Friday 18. Results will come out on the 22nd.  Please go vote on the 21st if you have not done so! FLA: On Monday we will finish up our debate preparations.  Debates will begin on Tuesday, October 22 and we will do one debate per day.  We will do a draw each day to see which topic will be debating, so be ready! Week of Oct. 15th

Science: Lab report p. 38 due Tuesday Oct. 22nd. Study sheet for theme 4 is due Thursday Oct. 24. SS: Student vote will be on Friday 18th and advanced poll on Thursday 17 at lunch. Students have a project due on Tuesday. It is a cartoon on how to pass anew law (Bill). There will be a test chapter 1 on Thursday 17. Multiple choices. Make sure you study for every assessments! You are in grade 9 and this report card will be used for your High School placement. ELA: This week we are writing a short story based off of "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty". The story should be about 1 page long & may be typed.  Walter Mitty assignment Language Power 1-10 should be complete by Friday 18th. Week of Oct. 7th

Sciences: We will watch a short video on organ growth and work on the basis of genetics. Study sheet for theme 3 is due Thursday. Math: This week we looked at the test on Rational Numbers together and reviewed the questions that were more difficult for students. I encourage students to come in at lunch if they still have difficulties. For the rest of the week, we will continue our chapter on exponents and students have a quiz this Thursday on the 5 exponents laws. We will play a exponent bingo on Wednesday to review exponents before the quiz. SS: ELA: Language Power 9 We wrote our poems based on Kipling's "If". The work was very well done. We also read the short story "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty" so that we can practice our story writing next week. SS update 4

This week, in SS, we continue on chapter 1 and talked more about the election. Next week students will work on an individual project on the steps for a Bill to become a law. It will be a political cartoon. It will be due for October 15, after thanksgiving week-end. .
